Accessibility Statement
At The Hiddle Hut, we want every guest to have a clear picture of our space so you can plan a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Because of the hut’s unique design and secluded natural setting, there are some physical features and terrain considerations that may affect guests with reduced mobility or specific access needs.
Getting here & parking
- Parking: off-road parking is available on site, directly behind the hut.
- Access path: the path from the parking area to the hut is coarse gravel chippings. It is generally flat, but can be slippery in damp weather.
- Steps: two low, wide steps with a handrail lead up onto the deck that wraps around the front of the hut. Two further steps lead down to the firepit, outdoor kitchen and sauna area in front of the hut.
Inside the hut
- Spiral staircase: the upper mezzanine level, with the king-size bed and the bathroom, is reached only by a reclaimed spiral staircase with a handrail. It is not suitable for anyone who finds steep steps or spiral staircases difficult.
- Doorways & floor levels: doorways inside the hut are standard domestic width, and there are small lips between the indoor living area and the outdoor decking.
Bedroom & bathroom
- The bed can be reached from both sides.
- The bathroom is on the same mezzanine level as the bed, just a few steps away, so there’s no need to use the stairs during the night.
- The double-size monsoon shower has large cube controls, and the vanity sink and bath have lever mixer waterfall taps.
- The mezzanine has two opening windows for an even airflow, and an oscillating fan at the end of the bed.
Guests with a chronic illness or going through the menopause
We know a good night’s sleep can depend on staying cool and having the bathroom close by. Upstairs, the two opening windows and the fan at the end of the bed let you control the airflow, and the toilet is only a few steps from the bed. If there’s anything else that would make your stay easier, just ask and we’ll do what we can.
See the layout before you arrive
If you like to know exactly where everything is before you arrive, the highlights on our Instagram, @hiddle_hut, show the layout of the hut and its surroundings. Autistic and neurodivergent guests have told us this helps them feel at home from the moment they arrive.
The grounds & outdoor amenities
- Decking & paths: the private deck, outdoor seating area and the paths to the sauna and cold plunge are timber decking and stone. Ground surfaces around the site can be uneven, wet or slippery depending on the weather.
- Lighting: because of our dark-sky setting, lighting is low at night. Low-level outdoor lighting is provided, but we recommend using the torch provided inside the hut when moving around outdoors after dark.
Pets
The Hiddle Hut is a pet-free retreat, because of the livestock in the surrounding fields, to protect local wildlife and to keep the hut an allergen-conscious space.
